We operate on the upper San Joaquin River exclusively. (See Heading Jet Boat Tours for a description of the San Joaquin River). If you are new to canoes and kayaks, don’t worry. It’s fun for all ages and no prior experience is necessary. We cater to beginners as well as more adventurous individuals looking for longer trips. San Joaquin Guide Service offers high quality, safe and reliable equipment including Malibu Kayaks brand boats. Our hard shell boats were designed to slice through the water, unlike an inflatable.

We offer a variety of trips as well as multi-day. We can customize trips to suit your requests. We also offer the option for shore lunches.

We take care of details at no extra charge and provide these items: Dry bag, Ziploc bags, cooler, tie downs, safety whistles and life vest.

Depending on your experience, we offer guided and self-guided San Joaquin River kayaking trips:

Trips (self-guided):
We offer half day (up to 4 hours) and full day (up to 8 hour) trips. These are estimated times and will vary greatly depending on your paddling capabilities and the amount of time you relax along the way. There are areas along the way where you may want to get out for a swim, or take a break for a snack/lunch. These estimated times are based upon averages of prior years experience taking clients down the river.

Participants are responsible for their own transportation to launch sites & will be carpooled from take out sites (if necessary). With large groups there may be associated parking fees (if necessary). Participants will also need to provide their own food, water and sunblock. Participants will be assisted with launching the kayaks/canoes into the river and will be instructed on basic paddling techniques.

Trips (fully guided):
Fully guided trips can range from half day (up to 4 hours) to full day (up to 8 hours), depending on client’s preference. This option is for the beginner to the advanced kayaker. This is the option most participants prefer to take as the guide will lead you down the correct route of the river, as he knows every bend and turn. He will also point out some interesting scenery and wildlife along the way.

This trip is not a float. You will be paddling and negotiating obstacles part of the way down. With guidance, a beginner can complete this trip with relative ease.

San Joaquin Guide Services’ experience on the river can show and teach you different things other kayak outfitters cannot.
